When you think of 1980s wrestling heartthrobs, you think of Magnum TA. Capturing his first Heavyweight Championship in 1984, Magnum quickly became an overnight main event draw.

Standing 6’1, 245 lbs, Magnum TA began as an in-ring technician but evolved his style into a physical brawler, inflicting his own style of brutality onto his opponents.

Not all wrestlers have career defining moments, but Magnum TA may best be remembered for two. First, his brutal “I Quit” Steel Cage Match to defeat Tully Blanchard to regain the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship. Then in 1986 against Nikita Koloff in a best of seven series which came down to a tie-breaking match that was decided with help of Ivan and Krusher Khruschev.

On the doorstep of greatness, Magnum’s in-ring career was cut tragically short following an automobile accident in October, 1986. Although Magnum’s in-ring career only spanned a short 7-year period, his trajectory in professional wrestling leaves many asking the question, “What if?”.
